Leos Give Parents A Break!

The Morganville Leo Club gave area parents and guardians a break on Friday, March 17th, when they held a "Parents Night Out" at the Morganville Community Center. Youth from 2 1/2 years to 11 attended the evening filled with games, stories, crafts, face painting, and movies. They even took time out to enjoy treats furnished by the Leos. Leo Ashley H. chaired this fun event for both the Leos and youth of the community. One young girl asked when leaving, "Are you going to do this every Friday night?" The Leos are getting ready for their Easter Egg Hunt for the community youth on Saturday, April 15th. Election of officers for 2006-2007 was held at March 15th meeting. Leo Mitch F. was elected President.

Ark City Leos Club News

The Ark City Leos Club submitted this information about their latest activities:
At our Feb 9th meeting the A.C. Lions club ask us to help them sell tickets for their fund raising dinner on March 11th they said for every ticket we sold we could earn $1. We sold 75 tickets. We were asked to help with their dinner. We had 10 members helping with 4 advisors. We help seat people and clear the places after they were done eating. We helped the Lions clean up after the dinner by folding chair and placing them on the carts and taking down the tables. The Leos got praised for their good work. The Lions were surprised how much help the Leos could be. We were asked to help again this year with the Senior prom given by the city for the Senior Citzens of Ark City. About 300 Seniors Citizens attended. We were asked to pour drinks and clear places when the dinner was over. Our Leos came through again. They did so much more then what was asked. Some of them earened tips which they donated to the Senior Center to defry some of the cost of the dinner. On April 1st the Leos are going to help the A.C. Early Birds Lions with the eye screening bus, by helping to clean it. We are planning a car wash the day of the prom. The money earn will go to help the victims of the past huricanes. We are interested in attending the State convention that is coming up. We will hold our election of officers in April.
Leos Attend Mid-Winter Rally 2006

Forty Kansas Leos gathered in Salina on Saturday January 14 for one of the year’s favorite events, Mid-Winter Rally. The Leos started the day at the Friendship Center where they heard PDG Richard Brauer speak about blindness, assistive technology and the experience of having a guide dog. The presentation was both entertaining and insightful and everyone learned a lot from PDG Rick.

The taco bar at the Youth Recognition Luncheon was a hit with the Leos. After enjoying a great meal and social time, the Leos and their advisors were recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities, Lions, and other organizations and causes. Among these were Valley Heights’ production of the play “Peter Pan” which raised over $400 for KSDS and the execution of an extremely successful Relay for Life by the Blue Valley West Leos.

The afternoon was spent in a public relations workshop where the Leos shared ideas for promoting their clubs and their activities. Writing a good press release, accessing the new state Leo website and accessing school and community resources were all covered. For the final activity of the workshop, each club wrote up a story about a recent or upcoming event to be published in their state and district newsletters and on the website. The participating clubs also spent time discussing pin designs for international convention and planning for Kansas Leos to attend the convention this summer in Boston.

Everyone had a great day catching up with old friendships, making new ones, and learning some things about Lionism and improving their own clubs. Clubs attending MWR were: Abilene, Blue Valley West, Hillsboro, Humboldt, Morganville, Mulvane, and Valley Heights. The Leos were also happy to have several non-Leo youth join them for the day including three exchange students and Ariel Severson, daughter of PDG Wally Severson.
